One of the easiest ways to add drama and texture to your home is to create a feature with your walls. You don’t have to cover every wall in a different form of decoration though; choose one or two interesting materials and use them in a clever way to add life, texture and design to your home. We’ve chosen five popular wall decoration to give you some inspiration!
1. Brilliant Bricks
Bricks are usually used on the outside of our buildings, but you can also use them inside your home to bring additional colour, texture and depth to an ordinary space. In Singapore you can add faux or decorative bricks to your home quite easily with a variety of products that look like the real thing but are light, and thin enough, to be added to an internal wall.
Using multi-toned decorative bricks in your home can create a sense of warmth and give a space texture and dimension like in this The Windsor apartment. To make sure the brick wall isn’t overwhelming stick to neutral tones like grey for floors and walls to balance out the look.

For a more Industrial style, the red bricks in this Strathmore Avenue living room look fantastic mixed with exposed fittings in black metal, timber floors and minimal furniture shapes.

For lovers of Minimalist style, the use of white painted bricks is a great way to add texture to an open space, while sticking to the Minimalist theme, like in this Yishun Ring Road and Changi Rise apartments.

Wallpaper is cool again! Gone are the days of ugly 70s vinyl walls, now wallpaper is a luxury home must have. Wallpapers are available in a very, very wide range of types - from affordable, pretty pastel shades to handcrafted silk and mulberry papers from Japan. You can also find fabulous ‘peel-off’ wallpapers that you can use to add seasonal changes and decorations, and change them whenever you want to.

3. Textured Timber
Timber has always been a popular materials to use in our homes. We all love timber floors, but you can also add timber to your walls to add texture and warmth to your home. Again, there are a huge number of different types of timber you can use. In Singapore, we have access to some great timber-look materials as well which can be more affordable or even more environmentally friendly to use. Just use your imagination to come up with a stunning statement wall feature.
This terrific timber wall in a chevron pattern makes a bold statement in this Esparina Residences apartment. The rich, warm colours are perfectly balanced against the black and white of the floors and furniture.

Timber can also be used in a more calm and minimal way, like the TV feature wall in this Bukit Batok living space; the pale colour of the timber is echoed in the flooring and looks sharp combined with white.

Tiles are another home decoration material that has come back in vogue in recent years. Trends for more decorative styles and colours - like the Eclectic Style - have seen more people adding fabulous patterned tiles to their homes. There are many, many different types of tiles, from the popular printed concrete tiles that are very affordable, to ceramic, glass and marble which can range in price from cheap to super expensive depending on your taste - and budget!

5. Cool Colours
Paint is hands down the fastest and easiest way to update, refresh and add drama to your home. Recent trends have focused on all-white-everything due to the popularity of Minimalist Style, or grey for the Industrial Style, but you don’t have to restrict yourself. If you want a minimal look you can choose pastel tones like soft Mint, and if you want to go darker, look for warm browns instead of grey. Here are a few examples of how to add colour to your home.
Pretty Pastel: Pastel shades are increasingly popular as they are not just relaxing but also comforting. They are also a perfect pairing to a Scandinavian-themed home!

Mint Magic: If you want to move away from all-white-everything but don’t want the colour to be too strong, try Mint. This soft green is soothing, relaxing, easy to live with, and goes well with pale timber and other natural shades.

Brilliant Blue: Blue is one of the most popular colours added to our interiors, it is another shade that is easy to live with, and one that goes well with natural timber tones as well; in the right tones it looks great with greens and oranges too.

Gorgeous Green: One of the easiest ways to bring nature into your home is to add the colour green; indoor plants are great, but go big and splash out on a strong shade of green to brighten up your home.
