Scandinavian design has taken the world by storm, and is a timeless interior design trend that is super popular with Singaporeans. Even better, it’s possible to attain the Scandinavian-inspired home of your dreams with a budget of $40k and less! Take a look at the following photos to see how you can capture the Scandinavian style for your abode.
Sembawang Crescent
Love nature? Then this home interior design will steal your heart! Colour plays a vital role in the look of the Scandinavian home, and in this unit, the use of blue and green and potted plants have beautifully complemented the wooden furniture in the house to not only impart a sense of warmth and earthiness, but also brings nature close to home. Artworks featuring nature are hung up to give continuity to the existing theme. The use of rounded and unconventionally shaped furniture is a fresh take on the minimalist design and help to give an unexpected edge to this Scandi-minimalist aesthetic. You’d never want to leave your house again!

Telok Blangah
In this resale unit over at Telok Blangah, Zenith Arc has successfully married three different design elements together to give a fresh take on the classic Scandinavian design. Think glass walls for bedroom, ceiling tracks, and floor to ceiling glass walls with a modern black frame to visually extend the living space and let natural light from the windows flow into the space. This has not only helped to liven up the Scandinavian design, but also created a home that’s truly unique for the family.

Bukit Batok
A Scandinavian-style home under $22k? Say WHAT?? This Bukit Batok unit done by Yang’s Inspiration Design is proof that you can attain a Scandinavian home at an affordable price! The accents of a patterned rug in the living room, marble furniture and a tinted mirror in the living space lends a modern touch to the Scandinavian-styled home. Isn’t it amazing? We also love the master bedroom, and the accompanying walk-in closet, with a mirrored surface to visually enlarge the space, as well as the quintessential display for any fashionista--a display for all the jewellery and coveted timepieces.Interior Designer: Yang's Inspiration Design

Sims Drive
This second $22k unit is designed by Starry Homestead and marries modern and Scandinavian styles. We love the unique oval feature on the wall, as well as the brightly patterned rug in the living room, with embedded cove lighting, lacquered marbled furniture and a fancy light fixture in the communal space. The designers made the home feel more roomy and spacious by creating an open-concept kitchen.

Skypark Residences
If you want to incorporate a sense of nature in the home but don’t have much time to maintain them, artificial turf for the flooring of the balcony is an increasingly popular option. Create an indoor garden with wood furniture and potted plants--just don’t forget to water them (or set up an automated watering system)! Combined with an airy space and the plentiful use of natural light, this unit is perfect for one to commune with nature in the comforts of one’s home.

Upper Serangoon Crescent
This home injects an industrial design twist into the conventional Scandinavian theme, with its white brick walls, wood television console, dining table and bench and the large shoe cabinet with mirrors (a great idea to check your #ootd before leaving the house). It also uses a number of different textures for an interesting visual feel, with leather couches, a dark wood, short coffee table. We love the black-framed glass windows and doors that allow natural light to flow through the home.
Using the same kind of feel as the wooden television console, the cabinets in the kitchen have a raw, unpolished feel that gives it an industrial feel, while also making it very visually appealing. With this much cabinet space, all your crockery, small appliances etc, can be easily stashed away for a cleaner, streamlined look.
For a resort feel in your bathroom, try using natural materials like stone, add a rain shower and a ledge of the same material as the rest of the shower area. Make use of all the wall space and install a mirrored cabinet to tuck away all your bathroom products like toothbrushes, toothpaste etc., while leaving other products on the shelf beside it (so you have a constant reminder--if you need it--to moisturise or do other pampering things).

Bukit Batok
This apartment is the epitome of the “Scandi-minimalist aesthetic”, with wood finishes pairing beautifully with the airy, white space, creating a minimalist style that is still cosy and homey thanks to the plush sofas, and the black-and-white patterned cushions.
Natural light flows in from the windows, showing an unblocked view of the area around it--a growing rarity in Singapore where houses are increasingly built closer and closer to each other. We also love the Japanese-influenced noren hanging curtains that divides the hallway from the two bedrooms.
An alternative to the open-concept kitchen is to install a glass door and panels so that it feels more airy and open, while still keeping the food odours confined so the whole house doesn't smell like food. A dish rack installed in the space above the sink allows for more counter space.

Lake Life at Tao Ching Road
Get the Hygge-inspired feel and create a cosy home with Scandinavian touches, using a lot of textures in the cushions, circular rugs, fabric sofas and throws. Framed black-and-white pictures add a touch of elegance to the home, while the lamps on the side tables are a quirky addition. We love the marble entryway, with shoe storage located below, that could also probably function as additional seating when guests come over. Keep your kitchen streamlined and clean with white and grey cabinets, and two shelves to place tiny succulents, and wine glasses. The master bedroom offers amazing views of their surroundings--enjoy the great view during the day, and then have a restful sleep at night with the blackout curtains.
