A trend not losing steam any time soon is industrial chic. Inspired by cafés and championing architectural elements, it's relaxed, cool and many are embracing it. By combining utilitarian design with raw textures it's an easy, no-nonsense way to incorporate retro pieces and salvaged items into your abode and to create a vibe that's both edgy, chic and desirable. While it used to be reserved solely for large warehouse spaces it is now infiltrating spaces of all shapes and sizes - urban and rural.
1) Warehouse Wonder
Embracing the open floor plan of the warehouse-esque space, with its polished concrete floors and exposed electrical cables, this home screams industrial chic. The open floor plan is punctuated with a single, cement rendered kitchen island, that is in-keeping with the raw aesthetic while designating the space, and the use of bi-fold doors is an edgy way to emphasise space when needed and close when privacy is priority.
The monochrome colour palette is perfect for this home. It's white, partially exposed brick walls are contrasted with black accented structural elements like exposed cabling, window frames and ceiling beams. This stark palette emphasises the vintage furniture and lighting which takes centre stage and adds a touch of warmth into the space achieving a look that is both unfinished, yet cohesive and chic.

2) Colour Pop
Another great use of the cement look render wall in this home. They have used it sparingly as a feature in the bathroom and in the hallway to complement the white brick wall. As a touch of difference pops of colour have been used: green on the front and bedroom door and a pop of red in the living room from the tv cabinet – a refreshing way to shake up an otherwise neutral colour palette.
Subway tiles in the kitchen work well with the brushed steel appliances and paired with black exposed cables and kitchen accessories tick plenty of industrial-chic interior design boxes. We also appreciate the statement Edison bulb pendant light above the dining table and the cluster of art work in the kitchen as a nod to the artist lofts that this design is so inspired by.

3) Reveal not Conceal
Leaving the brick wall raw and in all its glory makes a great statement in this home by Neu Konceptz. Paired with a cement look ceiling and timber clad kitchen cabinets it's proof that you don't need an expanse of space to achieve this warehouse look.
The study and music area is cleverly divided by an additional exposed brick wall and wrought iron cage doors that add to the industrial vibe but also give a sense of space, allowing light to continue through. The feature light is fabulous, even though it is industrial in concept it's chic in execution and adds personality to the small space, as does the sneaker wall – definitely the home of a rock star.

4) Décor Delight (IDID: Choa chu)
This home designed by IDID has the ceiling height to really make the industrial-chic design shine. With floor to ceiling white painted brick the eclectic vintage furniture shines below a modern take of exposed ceiling beams. The modern twist runs throughout with an off kilter, backlit feature wall behind the television and the polished cement floor blending into wooden floor boards – a clever way to designate space.
The excitement continues throughout the home with industrial style shelving, cement look kitchen cabinets, exposed black pipes, Edison bulbs, patchwork tiles and salvaged DIY furniture like the kitchen stools – the cushion covers are made out of old jeans! This apartment is anything but dull and we love the vibrancy it delivers as soon as you enter the custom-made front door.

5) Cogs & Cables
This home no doubt has modern influences but with its feature cog wall against white painted exposed brick we couldn't deny the industrial inspiration. The inspiration continues in the dining area with vintage furniture paired with industrial lighting. The monochrome colour palette in the bathroom compliments the cement rendered feature wall, industrial shelving and the subway tiles in the shower. It's clean and modern but still a little industrial and a lot of chic.

6) Union Jack Utility
The Union Jack is the hero of this industrial inspired apartment by Starry Homestead, the pops of colour throughout with black accents by way of track lighting, feature lighting and exposed cables creates a rustic punk edge. There's a moody textural interaction of grainy wood, earthy colours and smooth rendered cement surfaces which is a popular trend among industrial style homes.

7) Blissfully Bright
To show that Industrial chic doesn't always mean a darker, moody palette, this home designed by The Interior Lab presents a warehouse feel that is bright and airy. The open floor plan features polished concrete floors throughout with vintage wooden furnishings to help warm the space. Plush furnishings, scatter cushions and high pile rugs sharply contrast the industrial features, infusing softness and creating a visual balance. Though the kitchen features modern look cabinetry, the bathroom returns to our industrial chic with cement look tiles and exposed piping, that they've made a feature by painting black.
